Vegan On The Weekend: The Limited Sale

Last weekend I went to the mall the day after Christmas. Not the best idea ever, but it did lead me (and my shopping buddy) to The Limited. The Limited was, and still is, having a rather good sale on a variety of its clothing: legwear is 40% off (see available legwear here); pants are buy one get one 50% off; jewelry is buy two get one free; and a bunch of turtlenecks and other work-appropriate sweaters are reduced, drastically in some instances. The Limited is good for vegan fashion: many of the suits are made from cotton, polyester, and rayon blends, as are many of their sweaters. Here are some sale items of potential interest:

Forenza Shaker Cowl sweater: perhaps more for the weekend, or casual Fridays, this chunky sweater is made from 100% acrylic. It comes in the pictured "dark teal" and nine other colors, including the black that I purchased. I've worn the sweater a couple times -- it is very warm and comfortable. Great for cold weather. Originally $59.50, it is on sale for $14.99.

Printed Button Cowl top: continuing with the cowl neck, this top is perfect for putting underneath a full suit, perhaps black or a dark grey. The animal print is not too over-the-top, especially under a suit jacket, and will add a bit of flare to your outfit. The top is made from polyester and spandex. Originally $39.50, it is on sale for $14.99.

Ultra Pleated shirt: another top to put under your suit jacket to add a bit of modern flair to a plain suit. I like The Limited's description: "A crisp woven shirt need not be dull. Ours has oodles of pleats on the stand collar and neckline, giving it a polished look that works with or without a jacket." The shirt is made from cotton and spandex. It comes in the pictured "dark ivy green" (here) and "black and white stripe" (here). Originally $49.50, it is on sale for $19.99.

Basic Pencil Skirt: though billed as "basic," I'm not sure how basic this skirt really is: it has "waves of sheen" woven in, "creating hypnotic, undulating lines." However, it seems to hit perfectly at the knees, which is great for the office. The skirt is made from polyester and comes in the pictured black, which , conveniently, doesn't show the undulating, hypnotic lines. Originally $69.50, it is on sale for $39.99.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Anne Klein New York Skirt Suit

Two-piece onyx skirt suit via Anne Klein. I especially enjoy the double breasted jacket decorated with notches at the collar and pockets. The side tabs on the jacket add a bit of extra flare. Pair the suit with a black cami or perhaps a black or maroon sweater with a higher neckline. The suit is made from polyester and viscose. Originally $320, the suit is on sale for $199.99.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Ann Taylor Loft City Suiting

I have blogged previously about Ann Taylor Loft's city suiting collection. Recently the Loft added a one-button suit blazer to the collection (pictured in the melange grey), and matching pants and a skirt. The blazer (and the matching pieces) also comes in black. It pairs with two different cuts of boot leg pants ("ann" and "julie") and with a pencil skirt. The suit is made from polyester, viscose, and spandex. The blazer, "ann" version of the pants, and the skirt are available in stores. All items come in petites, although only the "ann" version of the pants is available in petites in stores.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Ruched Sleeve Suit

From The Limited. This suit features a longer-length jacket with three-quarter ruched sleeves with a vent on the back of each sleeve (see pictures of front and back). I like the length of the jacket combined with the sleeves: gives the jackets a traditional feel with a bit of flare. The jacket pairs with bootcut pants or a structured pencil skirt (which is lined). The suit is made from polyester, rayon, and spandex. It comes in the pictured navy.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Ingenuity "Pattern" Suit

Relatively new to Nordstrom is the line of Ingenuity suits. I posted about the line here when I first noticed Nordstrom carrying it. Originally the suit was available in mix and match pieces of solid colors. Now the line has expanded to include "patterns" of black and white "multi" and brown and white "multi." The black and white multi colored two-button jacket is pictured left. The jackets pairs with front-closure, slightly darted pants (only available online in the brown and white multi); a skirt, available in both colors, that hits slightly below the knees (perfect for the ultra-conservative office); or a sheath dress, also available in both colors (pictured right).

Monday's Vegan Suit: Semantiks "Pen and Ink" Suit

Via Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale. This black-and-white suit has a tweedy knit texture -- perfect for the summer-to-fall transition. The jacket, which features a softened collar and matching rounded hems, pairs with pants and a skirt. The skirt boasts contrasting piping in black, and hits perfectly at the knees. The matching trousers have the same contrast piping in black.

Monday's Vegan Suit: AK Anne Klein Suit

Every so often you need a basic black suit, such as this AK Anne Klein black suit via Dillards. I like this suit because it's affordable and perfect for very business formal occasions.

The jacket has a notch collar and a classic single-button front. It pairs with pants or a pencil skirt. The pants are wide-leg with a front hook-tab closure, and the skirt hits perfectly at the knees. The suit is made from a blend of polyester, rayon, and spandex. The jacket is $99; find it here. Thursday's Work-Appropriate Clothing Item: Classic Pencil Skirt

Via Banana Republic, which is holding an online sale -- 20% off when you buy $100 or more of selected new items online. This classic pencil skirt is one of the new items. It's made from viscose, cotton, and spandex, which gives it a bit of flattering stretch. The skirt comes in the pictured grey suede, which would match well with yesterday's work-appropriate shoes, washed stone, and black. It's $59.50; find it here.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Grey Suit Via Reiss

Reiss is a store mainly based in Europe -- specifically London -- but it has a few stores in the United States, such as in NYC, SF, LA, Boston, and DC. It boasts a line of fashionable and sophisticated menswear and womenswear. From its website, I've grabbed my favorite of their women's suits that are vegan.

The jacket, titled the "Welback," has a single button at the front and a matching single button at the back and three matching buttons at the sleeve cuffs. It pairs with the "Emily" pants, which feature single button side tabs and a classic tailored leg. Or pair the jacket with the "Henrietta" skirt. I love the very tailored pencil skirt's curved waistband and tabbed sides. All pieces are available in the pictured "gravel" color. The suit is made from polyester, viscose, and elastane.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Classiques Entier Melange Suit

Via Nordstrom. I really like this suit, the jacket and the matching skirt equally. The jacket has detailed stitching highlights and accent front pockets. I am especially taken with the three-button closure, with the button set close to each other. The matching pencil skirt is cut for a slim fit and hits perfectly at the knee. And it comes with a removable matching belt . . . which I probably would never remove.

The suit is made from polyester, rayon, linen, and spandex blend of fabric -- yes, vegan! Unfortunately, the jacket is available online only in one size (14); but the skirt is available in a variety of sizes, and I think the jacket might be available in Nordstrom stores. Despite the dearth of jacket sizes, I wanted to post the entire suit because posting merely the skirt would do the suit injustice. Designer Vegan Deal: Selections From Neiman Marcus Sale

Neiman Marcus is holding an online and in-store sale. The sale starts on-line today and in-store on Thursday. I did a quick browse through the sale; there are a few vegan items. Some of my picks; I've tried to weed-out those items that are available only in one or two sizes:

Burberry Check Dress (pictured left): love the neutral mushroom color and contrasting white checks, and, of course, the ruffles along the button front; the matching belt adds even more style to this shirt dress. Made from cotton, polyamide, and spandex. Originally $550; on sale for $330 (40% off).

Armani Collection Pin-Tuck Blouse (pictured right): when I first saw this blouse, I thought it looked more like a light-weight jacket with three-quarter sleeves. It really is a blouse, though I think its a great stand-alone piece, especially considering its stand collar -- wear it over a white cami and pair it with pants that have a little flair themselves (pinstripes, texture, etc). Made from cotton, nylon, and spandex. Originally $495; on sale for $297 (40% off).

Prince of Scotland Degrade Cardigan and Knit Top (pictured together at left): yes, this sweater set is really, really expensive, even with the Neiman Marcus sale discount, but it's Neiman Marcus, so, it's expected. The cardigan and matching knit top are hand-sprayed in Italy to create a degraded gray trim on the optic white background. I like the cardigan's v-neckline set against the top's scoop neckline. The set is made from cotton. The cardigan originally was $695 and is on sale for $417; the top originally was $550 and is on sale for $330. That makes them both 40% off. The matching pleated gray print skirt is also vegan (acetate and polyester) and is also 40% off ($1,150 to $690).

Eric Javits Squishee Shoulder Bag (pictured right): available in the pictured fuchsia, orange, and parrot green. Made from rayon and polyester with goldtone hardware. A perfect 11" x 14" x 4". On sale for $175. Here and here.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Ann Taylor Loft City Suiting

This black suiting collection is an Ann Taylor Loft online exclusive. The collection includes a jacket, boot leg pants, flare leg pants, and a skirt. Each piece is made from polyester, viscose, and spandex -- yes, vegan! The jacket has a one-button closure and a wrap-around detailed waist (pictured). I like the jacket's three-quarter length sleeves paired with its shorter 22" length that lets it fall at the hips.

Of the two pant options, I would choose the boot leg pants. The flare pants have a bit more of a curvy cut and closes with a button, while the boot leg pants are a bit straighter throughout and close with a hook-and-eye. Perhaps I just like hook-and-eye pant closures. And, though I don't wear skirts often, the skirt appears to hit perfectly at the knees (yes, pictured).

Thursday's Work-Appropriate Clothing Item: Nanette Lepore Skirt

I admit, I have an affinity for Nanette Lepore. And I really like this pencil skirt in the pictured "rendezvous tweed." The two front-flap pockets with buttons, the white contrast trim on the pockets and hem, and the seam detail on the front dress up the skirt while still making it professional and work-appropriate. Pair it with a light colored blouse or black sweater or even something of a more vibrant color.

The skirt is made from rayon, cotton, and acrylic -- vegan! It regularly is $295, but it is on sale via Bloomingdale's for 30% off, making it $206.50. Find it here via Bloomingdale's.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Semantiks Suit

The Professional Vegan is back from vacation! And I'm jumping right in with Monday's vegan suit. This suit is made by Semantiks and available via Nordstrom. I love the three-quarter length sleeves on the jacket -- perfect for summer -- and tie belt at the waist of the jacket. The jacket also boasts largish front pockets, which I always find useful during hectic days. The jacket can be paired with the matching pictured skirt or pants; and the suit is available in regular or petite sizes. It is made from polyester, rayon, and spandex.

The jacket is $138; available here. The matching skirt is $68; available here. And the matching pants are $88; available here. I noticed that Nordstrom has "lucky" sizes available online, especially in the jacket. However, I was in a Nordstrom this weekend and the physical store had more than just a few sizes.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Rebecca Taylor Suit

This Rebecca Taylor suit was on Corporette about a month ago . . . I thought it was gorgeous back then and I still think it's fabulous, especially now that summer actually is approaching rapidly. Corporette didn't like the flower boutonniere on the jacket (and suggested removing it immediately), but I think it's the jacket's best feature -- although I do appreciate that the flower detracts from the professional-ness and conservatism of the jacket, though wearing a short sleeved suit is a bit less conservatively professional anyhow. I also enjoy the puffed sleeves and the pleat at the back.

The jacket pairs with a slim skirt that is a perfect knee length. Both are made from polyester and rayon. And the entire suit is fully lined (so hard to find in the summer!). The jacket is $365; the skirt is $220. Find the jacket here and the skirt here; both via Nordstrom.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Trina Turk Suit

Short sleeved jacket with goldtoned buttons, matching knee-length skirt with matching goldtone buttons at the waist, an interesting and summery multi-colored pattern on a white background -- I really like this suit, although the short sleeves combined with the big pockets on the jacket and the multi-colored pattern may be too much for some workplaces and/or some work situations. Then again, the suit includes a skirt.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Nanette Lepore!

Perfect for the spring and summer, Nanette Lepore's "Sittin' Pretty" twill jacket has three-quarter-length sleeves accented with buckled tabs that double-breasted button front. I'm a fan especially of the double-breasted front paired with the half-belt around the back. The fully-lined jacket is made from cotton, viscose rayon, and elastane. Check it out here; $495.

The jacket pairs with Nanette Lepore's "Showin' Some" skirt, which is a great length except for the slit that depending on your height might show a bit too much leg (I guess that's the point though?). Made from the same cotton, viscose rayon, and elastane blend. Find it here; $275.

Although Nordstrom (where I found the suit) doesn't show the jacket paired with pants, I think that the jacket likely pairs with Nanette Lepore's "Picnic" pants. The pants are made from the same vegan fiber blend and boast similar buttons as the jacket. However, I would check the items in person to decide whether they actually go together. Finally, bonus vegan suit, also from Nanette Lepore: the "Woodshole" jacket paired with the "Plymouth" pants. Monday's Vegan Suit: Ingenuity Suit

Via Nordstrom. I like this suit because it is reasonable priced, but still looks well-made, although it's a bit too conservative for my taste: the pants have a side-zip and the collection boasts a really, really long skirt that I would never wear, though some might enjoy. I think Ingenuity is a new brand Nordstrom is carrying, perhaps in an attempt to cater to a less-monetarily-secure clientele. At least, I've never seen it online or in stores before.

The suit is made from polyester, comes in 5 colors (black, navy, stone, ivory, and red), and is machine washable, but unlike other machine washable suits, this one looks as if it is dry-clean-only. The suit collection includes two jacket options, a long skirt, a knee-length skirt, pants, and a sheath dress. The three-button jacket is $166 (here; pictured in navy). The more conservative "short suiting jacket" is also $166 (here). The long skirt that I would pair with the more conservative jacket is $96 (here). I would pair the knee-length skirt ($90; here), the pants ($96; here), or the sheath dress ($130; here; pictured in the navy) with the more traditional three-button jacket.

Monday's Vegan Suit: Banana Republic's Sleek Suit

4 colors, 2 pant options, and a matching skirt: Banana Republic's spring-summer-fall-weight casual (think semi-khaki-ish) suit is perfect for business occasions that require a suit, but not a full-out I'm-going-to-kick-your-butt black suit. The suit is made from 56% cotton, 41% rayon, and 3% lycra. As an added bonus, it's machine washable -- which, of course, also means that it looks rather casual.

My favorite color is the "silky coal" (the color of the blazer pictured right) -- other colors are black, moonlight, and stardust (a light blue). The "silky coal" is dark, but with a relaxed tone. I especially like the pleats at the top of the blazer's sleeves, which add a bit of a feminine flare. The jacket was originally $150 and now is on sale for $105 (I think Banana Republic is having some online 40% off special - which may end shortly). Find the blazer here.

The blazer matches the Martin sleek straight pant (my pick to go with the blazer; pictured left; available here); the Jackson sleek wide-leg pant (note these pants are dry clean only; here), and the sleek A-line skirt (here). Both pants originally were $78 and are on sale for $55.30. The skirt was originally $59 and is on sale for $41.30. The pants come in petite, short, and regular lengths.

Cute Skirt -- Vegan and On Sale

Mod Cloth, one of my favorite online shopping websites, is holding its "post holiday circus sale" (ends Sunday). I really like this "sociable chevron skirt" (pictured right), both because it's longish (probably falls just below the knees) and because the name reminds me of the famous Chevron case from admin law (I know, that's a bit dorky). Depending on your office environment, I think the skirt is appropriate any day of the week if paired with a blazer, cardigan, or fancy blouse, or perhaps only on "casual Friday." The skirt is 92% polyester and 8% spandex. As of posting, it is available in small and medium. Originally $39.99, it's now $20.

I also like this "ski club" jacket (pictured left), although it definitely is a weekend wardrobe piece. The website says it's appropriate for autumn and chillier fall weather. It's made from 100% polyester. As of posting, it is available in small, medium, and large. Originally $64.99, it's now $32.50.
